Cassie Hopkins

Relieved doesn't even begin to describe how i felt yesterday afternoon. I had survived not one, but two flights over a massive ocean without resulting death. Furthermore, I had stood valiant after conquering the coral coast of Fiji and its rabie (?) infused dogs, killer floods, native death drinks and deadly sea snakes.

I won't blab too much further surrounding the events of my trip, however, i will post a few photos with a following descriptive caption.

This was rad, we hired out scooters for 80$ Fijian (currency exchange rate equated to 1.60 for every AUS dollar). Motored around the bottom half of the island reaching speeds of up to 90km/hr, yeah you heard me right. We even were allowed in to a local village whilst they celebrated a grandmother's passing by shaking soda and baby powder onto each other.

Ahh two points to emerge out of this photo. One, this was also a great day due to the jet-boats we were about to board (in the background)which took us up the Sigatoka river and once again, into the caring hands of a local highlands village. Two, this day was made further exciting, because, my father (pictured holding the devil's liquid, Kava) was made chief, due to his age, and forced to dance in front of the local villagers and 30 or so tourist's.

This was probably the only letdown of the trip (for me anyway), we were promised many delightful activites on this fishing trip, however we basically trawled in the swell of the ocean and searing heat for 6 hours straight. This was made worse for me as i had amazing stomach pains from the previously mentioned devil's liquid. Aaron (pictured) managed to overcome the downfall's of the day to catch this badboy of a fish, which we ate later that night.

Lastly, whilst scouring the town of Sigatoka, i noticed this 'bridge' which was apparently ravaged beyond repair during the recent cyclone which must have devastated the island. Engineering nightmare.
